Welcome to the Mission Restoration Data Submission form  Thank you for contributing to Mission Restoration. Your submission of restoration data supports Canada's restoration goals under the Global Biodiversity Framework, the Freshwater Challenge, and the Bonn Challenge.   Restoration is the process of actively managing the recovery of an ecosystem that has been degraded, damaged or destroyed (Convention on Biological Diversity Target 2.)   
Before you begin 
  • This form will take approximately 15 minutes (per project) to complete. 
  • You may submit aggregated data if applicable. 
  • We are collecting data from 2020 to the present. 
  • Projects must be at least five (5) hectares or larger. If submitting aggregated data, the combined area must be at least 5 hectares. 

Examples of projects that qualify for Mission Restoration:  
  • Artificial regeneration: planting, seeding, etc. 
  • Natural regeneration: reducing the source of degradation, restoring natural flooding regimes (removing dams or barriers, creating wetlands), etc. 
  • Creation of wild gardens/yards for native species 
  • Projects that range from repairing ecosystem function to initiating native recovery to fully recovering native ecosystems. 

Examples of projects that that do not qualify for Mission Restoration:   Any restoration project that is part of legally required mitigation or offsets under Canadian or provincial legislation as a condition of approval for planned environmental damage at another location. For example, habitat mitigation approved under Canada's environmental assessment process or habitat banking approved under the Fisheries Act.  
Data privacy and sharing 
  • We respect your privacy and are committed to handling your data responsibly. 
  • Your data will be securely stored by WWF-Canada and will only be shared with Environment and Climate Change Canada in a summarized format as outlined in our Data Sharing Agreement 
  • We will share the analysis of collected data with all contributors to ensure transparency and collective learning.
