The purpose of this policy is to inform our donors, supporters, and others who interact with World Wildlife Fund Canada (“WWF-Canada”, “we”, or “us”), including through our websites and other platforms located at wwf.ca, schools.wwf.ca, atwork.wwf.ca, pandapulse.wwf.ca, legacy.wwf.ca, shop.wwf.ca, takeaction.wwf.ca, inthezonegardens.ca, datahub.wwf.ca, lprckids.wwf.ca, polarbearwalk.wwf.ca, and all related event and program websites (collectively our “Website”) of how we collect, use, disclose, and protect personal information. This policy also informs you about the rights and choices you have with respect to your personal information, and how you can connect with us to get answers to your questions.

PERSONAL INFORMATION COLLECTION and USE

We generally collect personal information directly from you. If we have your consent, or are otherwise legally permitted to, we may collect your personal information indirectly.

Donations – If you donate or sign up to donate to WWF-Canada, we will collect your name, mailing address, email, phone number and payment information to process your donation. We may also collect additional information that you provide to us, including date of birth, gender, preferred language(s), and other information which is used to assist our fundraising efforts.

Online Store – When you purchase a product through our Website, we collect your name, payment card information, billing address and email, and we use this information to process your payment and administer your order.

Marketing Communications – When you sign-up to receive our marketing communications, including our newsletter and communications about our events, programs, and fundraising initiatives, we collect your name, email address, and other information that you provide to send you the communications you requested to receive. You may opt-out of receiving marketing communications from us by following the opt-out or unsubscribe instructions provided in our emails, or by contacting us as set out in the Contact section below. Note that upon unsubscribing, you will continue to receive transactional and account-related electronic messages from us.

Employment – If you apply for a job at WWF-Canada or make a related inquiry, you will be asked to provide certain information (such as that contained in your resume, cover letter, or employment-related materials, including your education and work history, your skills, and qualifications for the position). We use this information to process and respond to your application and assess your suitability for current and future employment opportunities. We may collect other information that you choose to provide to us, or that we collect with your consent.

Volunteers – If you volunteer with us, we collect your name, age, address, contact information, email, emergency contact details, gender, and other information you choose to provide to help administer your volunteer role.

Events: If you register for or attend one of our events (or visit our booth at an event), we may collect contact information such as your name, email, addresses, and phone number. We collect this information so that we can communicate with you about the event and contact you about future events.

Contests and Promotions: When you enter a contest or participate in a promotion, we may collect your name, address, email address, phone number, and any additional information or content required for the contest or promotion, including to deliver a prize to you. We use this information to administer your participation in the contest or promotion. As part of a contest or promotion, we may obtain your consent to share or otherwise publish the content you submit.

Surveys: From time to time, we may offer you the opportunity to participate in one of our surveys. The information collected through our surveys is used in an aggregated, de-identified form. We use this information to help us understand our users and to enhance our services and platforms.

Monitor Compliance with our Terms: We may monitor your use of our Website in order to detect, investigate or prevent any actual or potential violation of our terms and conditions. We may also generate aggregated, non-identifiable data and use such information to monitor the performance, use and stability of the Website and to improve the Website.

Student Initiatives: If you participate in one of our student initiatives (e.g., Living Planet), we may collect personal information to administer your participation and deliver the program. We may collect your full name, school information (including province/territory, school board name, school name, and postal code, as applicable), grade level or area of study, date of birth (if applicable), estimated graduation date, language preferences, and communication preferences. Participants may also submit information about activities they have completed towards program certifications, which may include descriptions of leadership, volunteerism, academic, and personal activities.

The personal information we collect in connection with this program is not used for marketing to participants or sold to third parties. Upon successful completion of the program, we may publish limited personal information such as a participant’s first name on our website (participation in such publications are voluntary and optional, and separate consent for such purposes is obtained).

WWF-Canada does not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under the age of 13 (or 14 in Quebec) without parental or guardian consent. If we become aware that such information has been obtained without appropriate consent, we will delete it promptly.

Mailing Lists: We may collect your names, address, and phone number from a third-party agency as part of a mailing list for fundraising campaign purposes. We may also compile such information to be distributed for third-party fundraising mailing lists. You may opt-out of your information being collected or distributed in this manner by contacting us as set out in the Contact section below.

Contact Us: When you contact us with a comment, question or complaint through email, phone, or through our “Contact” form on our Website, you may be asked for information that identifies you, such as your name, address and a phone number, along with additional information we need to help us promptly answer your question or respond to your comment. We may retain this information to assist you in the future and to improve our customer service and products.

INFORMATION ABOUT OUR WEBSITE

Cookies – Our website uses cookies (small files containing program code that reside on your computer), to provide usage statistics about the website, and to understand where visitors learn about the website. We also may use cookies to simplify the re-entering of your information. You can adjust your browser settings to opt out of the use of cookies by having your browser disable cookies. Log Files – When you use our website, the servers that our website is hosted on automatically records certain information in server logs. These server logs may include information such as your web request, Internet Protocol (IP) address, browser type, referring/exit pages and URLs, number of clicks and how you interact with the website, domain names, landing pages, and pages viewed, mobile carrier, and similar information. Log files help us monitor, analyse, improve and maintain the website and to diagnose and fix technical issues.

Device Identifiers – When you access our website using a mobile device, we collect information about your device contained in your mobile device’s “device identifier.” This device identifier includes information such as the type of device you are using, its operating system, and mobile network information. We use this information to optimize the website and fix technical issues.

Analytics – We use third party service providers like Google Analytics to collect information about your use of our website, such as the features used and time spent on the website, to help us better understand our users and improve the website. The information we gather is used in an aggregate, non-identifiable form.

Social Media – If you interact with us on social media, we collect information that you disclose to us, or that the social media platforms disclose to use. SHARING of PERSONAL INFORMATION

Service Providers – We may transfer personal information to third party service providers that provide certain services on our behalf, such as information hosting and processing, marketing, analytics, information technology services, and payment processing. Some of these service providers may be located outside of your jurisdiction of residence (and, for residents of Quebec, outside of Quebec) including in the United States or other foreign jurisdictions. While outside of your jurisdiction of residence, personal information will be subject to applicable foreign laws, which may permit government and national security agencies to access your information in certain circumstances. We and our service providers may disclose personal information to meet our legal and regulatory obligations or otherwise as permitted or required by law, including to comply with a subpoena or warrant, to law enforcement in connection with an investigation, to protect our rights and the safety and security of our employees, for the purposes of investigating a breach of an agreement or contravention of law or detecting, suppressing or preventing fraud, and to enforce our agreements and collect debts owed to us. Your personal information may also be disclosed where necessary for the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims and to investigate or prevent actual or suspected loss or harm to persons or property.

Sale of Business – We may transfer any information we have about you as an asset in connection with a proposed or completed merger, acquisition or sale (including transfers made as part of insolvency or bankruptcy proceedings) involving all or part of WWF-Canada or as part of a corporate reorganization or other change in corporate control.

We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies or practices of any third-party sites or services.

SAFEGUARDS

Access to the personal information in our custody and control is only given to employees, volunteers, and authorized service providers who require access to perform their job functions. We have implemented reasonable administrative, technical and physical measures designed to safeguard such personal information against theft, loss and unauthorized access, use, modification and disclosure.

PERSONAL INFORMATION RETENTION

We have record retention processes designed to retain personal information in our custody and control for no longer than necessary for the fulfilment of the purposes set out herein or as otherwise required to meet legal or business requirements (such as for audit purposes or to resolve disputes), in accordance with applicable law.

YOUR RIGHTS

Subject to applicable law, you may request access to, or correction, of your personal information in our custody or control. You may also have the right, in specified circumstances, to object to our processing of your personal information, to request the deletion of your personal information or restrict its use, to request a copy of the information you have provided to us to use for your own purposes. Your rights are subject to applicable legal restrictions, and we may take appropriate steps, including requesting certain personal information, to verify your identity before responding to your request. OUR PRIVACY POLICIES AND PRACTICES

We are committed to protecting personal information and have implemented policies and practices that govern our treatment of personal information, including:

  • a privacy framework that defines the roles and responsibilities of our employees with respect to the treatment of personal information in our custody and control;
  • the designation of a Privacy Officer who is responsible for overseeing our compliance with applicable privacy legislation;
  • practices pertaining to privacy training and awareness for our employees with access to personal information;
  • policies and procedures regarding the protection of personal information, including safeguards designed to protect personal information in our custody and control against loss or theft and unauthorized access, use or disclosure;
  • processes for responding to data subject requests and complaints concerning the handling of personal information in a timely and effective manner; and

If we change our Privacy Policy, we will post those changes on this page to keep you aware of what information we collect, how we use it and under what circumstances we may disclose or share it.
