Go Wild: Let’s discover Quebec’s wildflowers and much more
On August 15, WWF went to meet and greet the Quebec spring 2015 Go Wild winners and to Celebrate Quebec’s Flora. The event organized by Éco-Nature and Wildflowers of Quebec, consisted mainly of a “bioblitz” biomonitoring native species in the Rivière-des-Mille-Îles Park.
The day was planned to educate, and to count specific floral species. It included lectures on the usefulness of plants, both for the ecosystem and for human health (edible and medicinal plants), as well as information booths, quizzes and a rally that took place on water and on land. It was a fun-filled day for dozens of nature lovers of all ages.
“The Rivière-des-Mille-Îles Park is an attractive and ideal area to discover biodiversity,” said Sophie Paradis, Director for Quebec, WWF-Canada. “People we met had great fun learning about the flora that surrounds us. Congratulations to Wildflowers of Québec and Éco-Nature for their organization and dedication to the ecosystem of the Mille Îles River.”
“The day was designed to discover the flora around the river and to entertain the whole family, and we succeeded! We are proud of our project, and more than 150 people visited the park that day,” said Fabienne Dupont-Lauzon, Communications, Eco-Nature / Rivière-des-Mille-Îles Park. “We were able to celebrate the floristic beauties of Quebec through Go Wild and WWF-Canada. Thank you and see you next year!”
