WHERE DOES YOUR MONEY GO?

REGENERATE CANADA

Every day, we get closer to crossing an invisible line — one that unlocks a future that is four degrees warmer. With your gift to Regenerate Canada, we can fund projects, react to unexpected challenges and reverse the seemingly irreversible to stay on the right side of this line.

Regenerate Canada is our bold 10-year plan to fight climate change and reverse wildlife loss by reducing carbon in the atmosphere, expanding habitats and lowering industrial impacts. Our plan has three ambitious goals: restore at least one million hectares of lost or degraded habitats, steward at least 100 million hectares of vital ecosystems for wildlife and communities and reduce carbon emissions by 30 million tonnes by restoring carbon-rich habitats and protecting current carbon stores.

ARCTIC

Today, the Arctic is warming at nearly four times the average global rate, causing sea ice — the foundation of Arctic life — to melt earlier and form later each year. This changes the entire Arctic ecosystem, and the impacts of climate change are already being felt by communities and wildlife alike. An increasingly ice-free Arctic means shipping pressure is increasing, further threatening pristine Arctic waters.

By supporting WWF-Canada’s work in the Arctic, your gift contributes to wide-ranging projects that promote a healthy Arctic for the people and wildlife who depend on it — from funding groundbreaking wildlife research, implementing pollution control measures for ships, and advocating for the establishment of Inuit-led protected areas that safeguard critical areas such as caribou calving grounds, whale migration routes, polar bear denning areas and walrus haulouts.

FOREST RESTORATION IN INTERIOR B.C.

Nearly 200,000 hectares of Secwépemc territory near Kamloops, B.C. were burned by wildfires in 2017. The fires destroyed vast areas of forest habitat and left the land vulnerable to soil erosion and landslides.

In the aftermath of the wildfire, WWF-Canada joined forces with the Secwepemcùl’ecw Restoration and Stewardship Society (SRSS) in a multi-year partnership to take on several important reforestation projects. Since 2021, the SRSS has planted more than 550,000 trees with WWF-Canada’s support, restoring more than 200 hectares of forest ecosystems impacted by the wildfires. Over the next two years, SRSS will plant more than one million trees as part of their goal to be planting ten million trees per year by 2030.

By helping to fund our work with the SRSS, your gift would support an Indigenous-led project that advances Indigenous knowledge systems and approaches to forest restoration. SRSS focuses on restoration that emphasizes ecological and cultural objectives, rather than economic ones, employing cultural values and food security as guiding principles in their work.

WHY CHOOSE WWF-CANADA?

JESSICA PATHY AND MARK PATHY, supporting WWF-Canada since 2021. Jess Pathy recently joined WWF-Canada’s Board of Directors.

There is no issue more critical than the environment. We appreciate being part of the global effort through WWF to not only preserve what nature we have left, but to mitigate the damage we’ve already done. Protecting our unique planet and the life that it sustains, including our own, is of utmost importance.

RUDI BLATTER who, with his family, established the Karine Blatter Arctic Fund at WWF-Canada, a transformational gift supporting our polar bear conservation efforts and communities in the north.

Growing up in the Grisons, a nature-immersed part of Switzerland, I connected to the outdoors daily. Contributing to the conservation of nature’s incredible assets has been a lifelong ambition. My family’s move to Canada over 25 years ago allowed us to see breathtaking beauty everywhere, and this convinced us that it takes firm action and determination to maintain nature’s integrity. A trip to Churchill in 2013 demonstrated what is needed in the North, including a greater understanding of the symbiotic integration of wildlife, Indigenous communities, climate change action and economic development. This is a fascinating challenge and one that my family is proud to be a part of.

ROHIT AND CHRISTINA SHARMA, Patrick and Barbara Keenan Foundation

Although nature tries to take care of itself, it needs help. As the threats of global warming continue to increase, it is our duty to try to make the Earth a better place for future generations. WWF-Canada’s work is important from both an educational and conservation perspective. We need a voice to constantly encourage our governments and public to do more to protect the environment. The Patrick and Barbara Keenan Foundation believes that by supporting WWF-Canada in its various projects, we are contributing to preservation of nature and the environment.

The Ronald S. Roadburg Foundation, supporting Indigenous-led restoration efforts in B.C. since 2023

“Our Foundation is rooted in a strong sense of community and committed to fostering transformational change. Addressing the climate emergency is one of our strategic priorities and we are particularly interested in protecting and preserving the province of B.C. and its vital natural resources. Our partnership with WWF-Canada enables us to support the advancement of Indigenous knowledge systems and approaches to forest and wetlands restoration. Through this we are living our commitment to Tikkun Olam (the Jewish principle of repairing the world).”

GIFTS OF STOCKS & DONOR-ADVISED FUNDS

Making a gift of stocks, bonds or mutual funds is a tax-advantageous way to invest in critical conservation work. The easiest way to make a gift of stock is to have the shares electronically transferred from your account to WWF-Canada’s account. You’ll receive a charitable tax receipt for the fully appreciated value of the donation and will no longer pay any capital gains tax. The receipt value will be for the closing trading price on the day that the shares are received in WWF-Canada’s account. Your broker can transfer your securities to WWF-Canada by completing this form and returning it to WWF-Canada.

You can also recommend a grant from your donor-advised fund, another tax-effective way to safeguard wildlife through WWF-Canada. You may choose to make a one-time gift, or to create a recurring monthly or quarterly gift for even more impact.
