1) Pledge to turn down your thermostat by 3˚C on February 17th (and wear a silly sweater).
After February 17th we will select the faculty/department with the highest percentage of pledgers. The winning faculty/department will be awarded a Pizza Party and there will be a raffle draw for Dalhousie winter wear! Visit the blog post to enter.
2) Take the National Sweater Day pledge by February 17 and enter your name into a draw for the chance to win a $500 gift certificate to Loblaw or one of two $250 gift certificates to Joe Fresh Style!
3) Change your Facebook picture to a WWF Sweater Day picture, OR take a picture of yourself with a silly sweater and write why in your caption, encouraging others to join in on February 17th! Check out the Dalhousie Sweater Day facebook event page.
4) Sport your silly sweater on campus on February 17th. If you are able to control your own thermostat, turn it down 3˚C! If the heat for your work or residence building is automated, some of these buildings may be turning down the heat for the day. Don’t forget to turn down your heat in your apartment or your house!
5) Come out to the Grad House on Thursday, February 17th for a night of music and prizes for the silliest sweater! Music includes Nick Everett, Ben Caplan and DJ TheJuice. 9pm-1am. No cover. Check out the Facebook event page for more information.
6) Organize your own Sweater Day party!
Don’t have a silly sweater?
First of all, your sweater does not HAVE to be silly. But, if you would like one:
Join other Dal students in a group trip down to Salvation Army @ 2:30pm on Wednesday, February 16th (Salvation Army has 50% off everything during 3-5pm on Wednesdays). Don’t worry if you have class until then, we will wait for a few minutes! Meet at the green chairs, 2nd floor of the SUB.
Tips for Conserving Heat (not just for Sweater Day!)
Dalhousie University’s Facilities Management and the Office of Sustainability are working on a temperature policy for the University. In the meantime here are some tips:

  • During unoccupied hours set thermostats to 15° C (nights and weekends). Don’t forget to turn it down as you walk out the door at the end of the day!
  • During winter time set thermostats for  20° C.  Exceptions for these temperature targets will be in laboratories and animal areas, or other spaces where there is a demonstrated work requirement for maintaining higher or more consistent temperatures.
  • Keep thermostats and heaters clear of clutter so they can work efficiently.
  • Retire your space heater.  If there are heating and cooling concerns please contact Facilities Management.
