WWF Yoga Jam in Nova Scotia

Northumberland Regional High School in Pictou County, Nova Scotia hosted its first “Yoga Jam” Fundraiser in support of the WWF on May 9. Students in their Yoga 11 class organized a class project with a goal to support environmental awareness and raise money for habitat protection of endangered species and symbolic wildlife adoptions.

Students bought a ticket in order participate in the group yoga class. The result was more than 70 students jammed into the school theatre for a one hour celebration of their connection with nature. Karen Berezowski, the Yoga 11 instructor who led the students in this great initiative, said that the class learned a valuable lesson in teamwork – how working collectively can benefit species protection, and they had a lot of fun and learned a lot while doing it.
WWF-Canada was happy to support this event by providing some of our educational brochures and newsletters to the students so that they could get a better understanding of what they were “posing” to protect.

Yoga celebrates the connection of all living beings and it’s exciting to see school groups like Northumberland Regional High School take action for the betterment of themselves and the planet. Maybe we can “bend” a few more groups to participate in a National Yoga Jam!
Way to go Pandas!
