You spoke up for nature. The government listened

Earlier this year, we asked you to speak up for nature, and you answered our call in droves. Thank you for showing the federal government just how much you care about nature and wildlife.

Last week, the government released its long-awaited new nature strategy, backed by a $3.8 billion investment.

This is a direct result of people in Canada like you making it clear that nature protection and restoration are urgent priorities.

WWF-Canada is happy to see Canada re-confirm its 30×30 commitment to protect 30 per cent of our lands and waters by 2030, as well as more than $230 million pledged for expanding the Indigenous Guardians programs. With this investment, the government acknowledged what we have been telling them: economic development and conservation can, and must, go hand in hand.

However, there are certain things we want to see more focus on: large-scale ecosystem restoration, essential to increasing habitat to fight climate change and biodiversity loss; and sustained investment for species at risk recovery, which is needed to build on hard-won progress for species like the southern resident killer whale.

So, we’re ready to help the federal government implement and expand the strategy with our scientific expertise, extensive partnerships, collaborative spirit and unwavering dedication. We look forward to working with decision makers in government and industry — and with you, our passionate supporters — to continue protecting, stewarding and restoring nature across Canada.

Thank you, once again, for raising your voice to remind our leaders that nature can’t wait.
