Signs of Spring

Written by Wendy Ho, Guest blogger for WWF’s Living Planet @ Work
A few days of above zero weather (some of that right now would be nice).
Sightings of the lone robin on the backyard fence (make that two).
The musky smell of grass and soil that fills your nostrils (oh memories of outdoor recess).

I could go on and on. These are the signs of spring which many of us are patiently waiting for given the kind of winter conditions that have graced us these past few months.

Spring, as we all know, is a time of renewal, rejuvenation and hope. It’s the awakening from winter’s slumber; when animals and people ramp up our energy and metabolism. Springtime also signals excitement, e.g. spring forward our clocks, spring into action… you get what I mean. If you’ve been thinking about doing something meaningful for the environment, springtime IS the time! And it can start at your office or home. How?
This year, WWF Canada’s Living Planet @ Work has launched a brand new “Spring Things” campaign. The time-bound workplace campaign, from February 24th to May 1st, connects many of our much-loved Panda events and calls on individuals to address critical conservation issues through fundraising at work.

We’ve created some great toolkits and online resources full of ideas to inspire you into action and to help you rally your colleagues to do the same. Through this campaign, you’ll learn about how you can support WWF’s critical conservation work through a series of WWF Spring Things activities:
A) Arctic Home: Participate in Polar Bear Week. A week of fun activities to help you celebrate and support the Arctic and the species that call it home, like the polar bear.
B) Earth Hour Week: A week of activities to engage your colleagues in energy conservation and fundraising for WWF’s climate and energy work.
C) 24th Annual CN Tower Climb: The ultimate bucket list event! Build your team, secure your spot and climb 1776 steps to the top of Toronto’s most iconic building.
We have a host of workplaces already organizing their Spring Things events! From two different OLG sites hosting their own polar bear plunges, to all-staff trivia challenge fundraisers to friendly “stair master” competitions in preparation of the Climb.
Spring is really just around the corner. So get ready and make sure your colleagues, family and friends are as inspired as you are. Click here to visit the Spring Things website and learn how you and your workplace can be a part of the solution!
