Community Panda feature story: Sunny Leung

Through WWF’s Community Panda program, these incredible people have organized events and activities in neighbourhoods across Canada in order to raise funds for WWF. We are very grateful for their support and incredibly proud of their accomplishments.

This month, we are featuring Sunny Leung, a dedicated WWFer from Richmond, BC. Together with his church community, Sunny raised almost $900 for WWF!
Tell us about your event?
With the support of our church, I set up a booth at our church’s yard sales event in order to help fundraise and promote WWF’s work. We sold WWF products including adoption kits, t-shirts, and a yoga mat and encouraged visitors to buy the gifts online to support WWF. We also displayed two paintings on the table for a silent auction. These beautiful artworks were generously donated by our church’s artists. During the event, we gave live demonstrations on the use of natural cleaners and building things like flowerpots using old materials. Many of the visitors to our booth were interested in the WWF products and eager to learn more about natural cleaning options.

What inspired you to take action for WWF?
After Japan’s nuclear crisis, I realized that environmental protection is very important. I was inspired by the Earth Hour event held by WWF in the meantime, so I decided to take action for WWF. We most probably will do this Community Panda initiative again next year.

In addition to starting his own fundraising initiative, Sunny was also a site coordinator for the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup this past September where he and his church community lead a cleanup at the North East dyke in Richmond, B.C. Despite the downpour that occurred that day, the team collected over 45 lbs of trash covering a 2.5km distance. “We all enjoyed the meaningful day while helping to protect our earth”, says Sunny.
Tremendous thanks to Sunny for his great leadership and dedication to helping protect WWF’s wildlife and wild spaces.
