Communities depend on the Great Bear Sea

In the Great Bear region, people often refer to the ocean as their refrigerator. The sea is home to salmon, herring, halibut, sea cucumber, seaweed and a myriad of sea creatures, all dependent on this fragile, unique region for survival.

It also happens to be one of the most dangerous and unpredictable seaways on the planet.

So the idea of massive oil tankers plying these waters is terrifying. Terrifying for the people who depend on the sea for their livelihoods. Terrifying for those who are working to conserve threatened humpback whales who make this place their home. And it is terrifying for all Canadians, because losing a place like this is unimaginable.
