Celebrating World Oceans Day in the Atlantic Region

I have been super busy these past few months assisting our World Oceans Day committee, here in NL, with planning for our Annual World Oceans Family Fun Day.
Between stuffing goodie bags for the Fish Pond game, and putting together our fun WWF booth, the World Oceans Day event, which is on Saturday June 9th, is ready to roll.  With all kinds of interesting booths and kid friendly activities like games, crafts, face painting, movies, a sing-along and story time, this years World Oceans Day event in St. John’s is sure to be even better then last year, which was amazing.

In Halifax, WWF will once again be participating in the annual World Oceans Day event hosted by DFO and DFA on the waterfront. We will be joining other environmental organizations with an interactive booth and you may even spot the Panda onsite.
WWF has been focusing our conservation efforts on the health of Canada’s three oceans, and this year our own National theme for Oceans day is “Canada’s Oceans & You”.  The survival of ocean creatures and their environment depend on the decisions we make, day to day, and actions we take to ensure our oceans can continue to provide for the people and creatures that depend upon them. Damage from industrial activities and unsustainable practices are playing a huge role in overall health of our Oceans.  That is why we are encouraging Canadians, young and old to support and participate in World Oceans Day activities and learn more about the small actions you can take every day to help our Oceans stay clean and bountiful.  The simple action of buying sustainable seafood is just one of the awesome ways you can help.
If you live in St. John’s, please drop by our booth at our World Oceans Day event to find out about the role WWF is playing in ensuring the long-term health of our Oceans.
Happy World Oceans Day!  Exciting, isn’t it?
