WWF Canada to make musical history in Celebration of 5th Anniversary of Earth Hour

(TORONTO: March 7, 2012) – To celebrate the 5th anniversary of Earth Hour, WWF Canada is calling on Canadians to join them in making history by helping to write Canada’s first crowd-sourced song – the Team Earth Hour Anthem.

Canadians are invited to write a song lyric expressing their love for the planet and why they think it’s important that we protect it, in 140 characters or less, and submit their entries on WWF’s Facebook page. The submissions will then be voted on by the public, with the Team Earth Hour Anthem assembled from a combination of the top-ranked lyrics and the top ten selections from composer Andrew Huang, who will write the final piece. Everyone who submits a lyric will be entered to win a Grand Prize of an X Series Electric Scooter from EMMO, courtesy of the AIR MILES®*Reward Program.

The history-making song will be performed live at a special sing-a-long concert on Earth Hour – Saturday, March 31st, beginning at 7:30 pm – at Toronto’s Distillery Historic District.

It doesn’t matter who you are or where you come from, we all share the same planet, which means we’re all on the same team this Earth Hour. Join Team Earth Hour and show your support for action on climate change by visiting wwf.ca/EarthHour. The first 100,000 Canadians who pledge to switch off their lights for Earth Hour can also earn 5 AIR MILES®* reward miles*.

Quotes
“Canadians need to take a stand against climate change, and joining Team Earth Hour is a great place to start. Earth Hour started five years ago as a global movement with one goal in mind – creating a greener and cleaner world. We’re striving to achieve a world where everyone has access to fresh air, clean drinking water and natural resources, no matter where they live.” – Josh Laughren, Climate and Energy Director, WWF

“What better way to celebrate the power of Team Earth Hour than by coming together and making musical history for Canada? I would encourage everyone to participate, because we all have something unique to say about the world we live in and love.” – Andrew Huang, composer
