UN chief tells Harper to put environment on G20 agenda – WWF-Canada Expert Available for Comment
What WWF thinks should be on the agenda:
• Climate finance commitments
• Phasing out fossil fuel subsidies
• International climate change accountability
The G8 and G20 will be the first time Heads of State gather post-Copenhagen so this is a pivotal opportunity to ensure they uphold commitments made last December. To date, climate change has not been a priority during pre-summit meetings. Canada has also decided not to organize a pre-meeting of Environment Ministers for the first time since the George Bush administration in 2004. France, who is hosting in 2010, has already signalled that climate change will be a key issue on the agenda next year.
