Specialist, Development

Position Description
 
The Specialist, Development will focus on converting annual giving donors (Community Giving) to major gift supporters. The core strategy of this role is to identify and cultivate the “next generation” of WWF major gift donors. The Specialist, Development  will help WWF to build a network of young, entrepreneurial individuals and develop programming and activities that engages them as volunteers/supporters and deepens their understanding of our work, so that they feel a lifelong affinity to WWF-Canada.
 
Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and cultivate relationships with donors who have been giving annually and appear to be ready to make a major gift.
  • Develop strategies for continuing engagement with these transitional donors.
  • Cultivate and steward a portfolio of mid-level donors ($1,000 to $10,000 annually) with a goal of raising giving levels over time to $10,000+
  • Provide leadership to a schedule of cultivation events designed to build the portfolio
  • Manage our new annual special event that is targeted at this transitional donor group, which we anticipate will be comprised of young donors.
  • Work in close collaboration with the Community Giving Team as well as the Digital Communications Team, to develop and implement stewardship and cultivation strategies designed move donors from our base into the mid-level donor portfolio
  • Play a key role as a member of the Major Gifts Team in achieving our financial goals
  • Planning and budgeting for the annual signature event (Pandamonium) and other programming and outreach activities.
  • Writing call reports, tracking and monitoring the relationships that evolve through targeted outreach and programming.

What We Are Looking For:

  • A post-secondary degree plus a minimum of three to five years of fundraising experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills and high emotional intelligence
  • Good communication skills; written and verbal
  • Adept with social media
  • Proven project management skills with planning and follow-up experience.
  • Experience working effectively with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to set priorities, complete work with minimal supervision and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of and/or education in environmental/sustainability issues is an asset.
  • Ability to converse in French is an asset.
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge or related fundraising database system.
  • Proven ability to secure, grow and sustain meaningful and lasting relationships.
  • Articulate, confident and with an ability to communicate effectively with all levels of internal and external contacts.
  • A hands-on team player who is able to work independently of stakeholders, interpreting complex programs and ideas to a varied audience.
  • Ability to balance competing priorities, complex situations and tight deadlines while driving to surpass goals.
  • Strong focus on accountability.

This is a full time, permanent position based out of our Toronto office.
