Senior Manager, Strategic Communications
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Senior Manager, Strategic Communications, is a high energy, organized and creative people manager operating in a dynamic work environment, responsible for leading production and deployment for all of WWF communications in order to achieve conservation, fundraising, public mobilization and partnership goals. This role is also responsible for providing strategic counsel across the organization, to ensure clear message consistency and alignment with WWF-Canada’s vision, priorities and conservation program work.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage a team of four strategic communications specialists and collaborate effectively with other members of the communications team, other departments and external stakeholders.
- Oversee the creation and deployment of all communications (public, media, government and partner engagement; marketing & advertising; etc.) for all aspects of the organization to ensure accurate and effective messaging consistent with the voice and purpose of the organization. This includes:
- Helping to develop communication strategies in collaboration with other key leaders;
- Generating and provoking effective communication ideas to deliver on those strategies;
- Turning those ideas into effective pieces of communication that reach and engage the appropriate audience in all proprietary, earned and paid channels, including print, digital (social, mobile and video) and broadcast.
REQUIREMENTS
- A senior level communications professional with at least 10 years in journalism and/or communications, preferably with experience in a not-for-profit, corporate or government setting.
- Exceptional leadership, mentoring, coaching and team-building skills combined with the ability to drive effective results, using excellent judgment, discretion and decision-making.
- Exceptional written communication skills ¬— including writing, editing, copy editing and headline writing — for print, digital (including social, mobile and video), broadcast and public speaking.
- Exceptional visual communication skills — including art direction and design — for print, digital (including social, mobile and video), broadcast and public speaking.
- Exceptional understanding of current productions tools and techniques for print and digital (including social, mobile and video)
- Exceptional skills in public relations, media relations, media placement and marketing
- Exceptional understanding of regional, national and international issues related to WWF-Canada’s mission.
- Exceptional mediation and negotiation skills with the ability to resolve difficult situations while demonstrating tact and diplomacy.
- Experience leading teams, projects, managing budgets and developing strategies, policies and new processes.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a timely manner.
- Experience with a multiple-site organization is an asset.
- Experience working in a conservation environment is an asset.
