Senior Manager, Arctic Programme

Position Description 

The Senior Manager Arctic Programme, is accountable to proactively facilitate and support the effective delivery of the WWF Arctic Strategic Plan.  An integral part of the programme’s delivery involves budget management and fund use.  This position will collaborate closely with WWF-Canada and other international WWF Arctic Programme offices on budget, financial management, and will provide oversight of the WWF Arctic Programme fund distribution.
 

Key Responsibilities   

  • Contribute to the strategy development and facilitate its execution.    
  • Monitor, track progress of, and report on strategy implementation and organize the evaluation of the programme.    
  • Advise on, and work toward, solutions to implementation challenges.    
  • Engage with WWF grant recipients and external contractors to ensure deliverables are met.    
  • Engage and collaborate with coordinating team colleagues and all WWF Arctic Programme offices, as appropriate, on project and programme management, including expenditures of funds.    
  • Provide financial and progress reports to programme donors.    
  • Engage with national organizations and the coordinating team to ensure that the WWF Arctic Strategic Plan is aligned with the National Organizations’ stated Arctic outcomes.    
  • Under the direction of the WWF Arctic Programme Director, coordinate the planning process for the coordinating team, including budgeting discussions as well as for WWF Arctic Programme and its implementation plan.    
  • Contribute to any refinements or revisions to the WWF Arctic Strategic Plan, coordinate the National Organizations contribution and be accountable for ensuring the Operations, Finance and Monitoring and Evaluation sections are in place.    
  • Provide a mechanism for monitoring and evaluating progress toward WWF Arctic Programme conservation objectives and goals and collaborate with National Organizations to collect data and complete analyses.    
  • Lead and organize programme evaluations with external evaluators.    
  • Maintain an overview of programme’s progress – through monitoring & evaluation and semi-annual reports – and bring forward implementation issues and possible solutions in a constructive and timely manner to WWF Arctic Programme Director, colleagues and the Steering Committee.    
  • Work closely with WWF-Canada finance lead and donor and recipient National Organizations to ensure funding flows to critical WWF Arctic Programme directives through resourceful and strategic allocations.    
  • Ensure that semi-annual, annual, and quarterly progress and financial reports are completed and submitted to WWF donors as per network standards and ensure National Organization input to reports.    
  • Draft and negotiate intra-network and external MOUs, funding agreements, and contracts, write statements of work and budgets.       

What We Are Looking For   

  • A management degree (Masters or higher preferred)    
  • 10 years progressively senior experience in programme management/ operational/ office/ financial management.    
  • Experience working in an international program, fluently across multiple countries and time zones    
  • Experience in the design, development and implementation of strategic initiatives and activities.     
  • Excellent planning and time management skills, with ability to multi-task, produce and coordinate projects to tight deadlines.    
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills.    
  • Excellent analytical and interpretive abilities.    
  • Demonstrated adaptability, flexibility, initiative, sound judgment, political sensitivity and awareness, tact and diplomacy.    
  • Ability to work as part of a team with little direct supervision.    
  • Experience working successfully in network organizations with the ability to work effectively with team members from different offices and cultures.    
  • Excellent communication skills and teamwork, and ability to maintain relationships and supervise and manage staff.    
  • Knowledge of contract law principles.    
  • Knowledge of the WWF Network and operations would be an advantage.

This is a 2-year contract position that will require some international travel.
