Scientific Illustrator Volunteer

The Great Bear region of British Columbia’s north coast is one of Canada’s ecological treasures and WWF-Canada is actively working to protect it. We are seeking a volunteer who can help create illustrations for the public domain detailing issues facing the Great Bear region. This will include creating sketches and vector images of species, human activities and processes (such as environmental flow) that occur in the Great Bear region. The images will need to be accurate representations of these elements for use in WWF and other ENGO communications. This is a highly specialized volunteer opportunity for an artist trained in  Adobe Illustrator and/or Google SketchUp. 

Where: WWF-Canada’s Vancouver Office (409 Granville Street, Suite 1588, Vancouver, BC)
When: Starting immediately (July 2012) with a 4 month committment 
Shift: 8 hours/week flexible during office hours (8:30am to 5:30pm) 

Responsibilities:
• Create digitized illustrations of environmental processes such as environmental flow, ocean acidification, climate adaptation
• Create vector images of Pacific Northwest biodiversity in a format consistent with Integration and Application Network Image library standards
• Create vector images of human activities from Pacific Northwest biodiversity in a format consistent with Integration and Application Network Image library standards

Experience and Skills:
• Demonstrated experience working with Adobe Illustrator or Google SketchUp to create vector images
• Have a good grounding in natural sciences and understand the importance of accurate representation
• Ability to work independently 
• 18 years of age or older
