Poll proves Earth Hour more than a moment in time
The important thing to note is that Earth Hour means more to Canadians than just turning out the lights. In the GTA, 79 per cent of Earth Hour participants want to see action taken on climate change, including 67 per cent who expressed their commitment to taking personal action. The number that leaves me feeling optimistic is that 71 per cent of those who participated say they are now more likely to reduce power consumption at home by at least 30 per cent. This is reflected in the steadily climbing membership of The Good Life, through which thousands of Canadians are taking action together.
It’s been a while since Canadians had something to be proud of on the climate change front. As the country with the most people signed up for Earth Hour, and the most cities and municipalities participating, we have shown the world that we are ready to do our part.
