North Toronto Moms: Making ‘green’ a priority

A lot of moms walked to the nearby stores to support local shop owners, and enjoyed this as a form of getting out of the house and exercising. Other moms shared natural cleaning recipes with vinegar and baking soda and how to get stains out without using chemicals. We discussed the issues of buying organic versus local, and the plastic or reusable diaper debate. What seemed to frustrate these ladies the most was the amount of packaging for products that went into the garbage or recycling, so we discussed strategies to minimize this waste.

At the end of the hour, my moms agreed that it was necessary to have a ‘green’ coordinator on their executive committee to help compile important information, green their monthly events, and continue the discussion, giving green a permanent place in their group. I’ll be helping them with this task, so be sure to check back on my blog to hear how we’re doing!
