Moving forward by going vintage

Shopping in vintage clothing stores is a unique experience, different from shopping in new clothing stores. Unlike new stores, which rigidly dictate this season’s uniform on grim-faced mannequins, vintage stores naturally evoke a sense of possibility and light-hearted fashion experimentation.

But vintage and gently worn clothes aren’t just accessible in stores. An even better way to access some of the best finds is from your friends and neighbours! Yard sales are super for finding funky wares and outfits from past. Along those lines, I’ve had great success in clothing swaps with my friends, and especially a long time ago as a kid heading off to school! I was always so very proud to wear the clothes my teenage neighbour handed over to me, which had grown too small for her. I felt so cool because I knew I had her approval for the hippest clothes, since they used to be hers! Swapping clothes can be a fun, easy way to save money, meet your neighbours, increase your ‘cool factor’ and help the planet all at the same time.

Have you hosted a stuff swap? Wanna share what you found? Send your pics to me and I’ll post them for others to see!
