Media advisory: Thousands to climb CN Tower for wildlife this weekend
TORONTO, April 10, 2019 — This weekend, thousands of individuals will conquer the CN Tower’s 1,776 steps in support of nature and wildlife by taking part in WWF-Canada’s 29th annual CN Tower Climb for Nature. Last year, more than 6,000 participants raised over $1 million for conservation programs. We hope to match that achievement again this year.

When: Saturday, April 13 and Sunday, April 14
Who:
- Megan Leslie, WWF-Canada president and CEO
- Tyler Kruschenske, world championship obstacle course racer and WWF-Canada’s fastest returning climber
- Jonathan Martonyi, now 11, has been climbing since he was five years old and holds a personal best of climbing in under 16 minutes
- Corporate teams from IKEA Canada, Loblaw Companies Limited, Nissan Group of North America, Royal Bank of Canada, Rogers Communications, TELUS, The Printing House, Beam Suntory Canada Inc., BGIS, Bentall Kennedy (Canada) LP, Procter & Gamble Canada, PricewaterhouseCoopers Canada and FedEx Canada
- +6,000 other climbers including teachers and students, climbers who range in age from 5 to 70+, running groups, etc.
By day:
Saturday, April 13
- 5:30 a.m.: Media desk opens at base of CN Tower.
- 6 a.m.: Climbers start up the tower.
- 10 a.m.: Last climber enters the tower.
- 11 a.m.: Last of the climbers should have cleared the tower.
Sunday, April 14 – includes Elite Climb Challenge
- 5:30 a.m.: Media desk opens at the base of CN Tower.
- 6 – 6:30 a.m.: Elite Climb registration opens.
- 6:30 – 7 a.m.: Elite Climbers (competitive climbers) will vie for the fastest time up the CN Tower in under 15 minutes.
- 8 a.m.: Megan Leslie to announce the fastest male and female Elite Climbers at MTCC, North Building, Hall A, DJ booth.
- 7:10 – 10 a.m.: Individual and team climbers start up the tower.
- 9:30 a.m.: Megan Leslie climbs the CN Tower.
- Megan is available for interviews before and after the climb; photo-ops entering stairwell and at finish line. Please contact WWF to arrange interview in advance.
- 10 a.m.: Last climber enters the tower.
- 11 a.m.: Last of the climbers should have cleared the tower.
Please note that all media will be required to sign security waiver forms to ascend the CN Tower by elevator. Forms will be available at the media desk in the base of the tower.
