Living Planet at Work Volunteer

The Living Planet @ Work program, open to all organizations, will help businesses engage employees and encourage individuals in the workplace to implement more sustainable business practices and lead a wave of change at work, at home, and in the community. This program provides the strategic guidance, tools and support that empowers companies to rethink their operations and find greener ways of doing business. At this stage of program development, we are looking for a volunteer to assist us with tasks associated with the following program components: prospective company research, outreach and recruitment and champion engagement.

In this capacity, the volunteer will be contributing to the efforts to grow WWF’s newest program. The volunteer will provide research and on-going tracking of company sign-ups and activity to support the Living Planet @ Work team in its goal to advance program recruitment, engagement and workplace giving, which in turn will contribute to overall program success.

Where: 245 Eglinton Ave. E, Toronto, Ontario, M4P 3J1
When: November 2012 to March 2013
Shifts: Eight hours per week, flexible within 9am to 5pm on Monday to Friday.

Responsibilities:

  • Research and compile a list of organizations for potential cross-promotional opportunities.
  • Reach out to organizations by phone and e-mail to pitch the Living Planet @ Work program in order to secure our logo and information on organization websites and in other communication channels (e.g. newsletters, webinars, blogs etc.).
  • Update the Living Planet @ Work user journey tracker with champion ‘user’ information (e.g. number of downloads, actions pledged, interests etc.).
  • Search for photos in the WWF GPN database for use in the monthly Living Planet @ Work newsletter.
  • Search for popular and influential tweeters in the business sustainability space in order to grow our presence in this community.
  • Search for sustainable professionals on LinkedIn and compile a list to be used for networking and recruitment.
  • Search for relevant articles relating to business sustainability, workplace giving and employee engagement to continue building our database of knowledge in the program.

Experience and Skills:

  • Post secondary education in business and / or the environment (completed or in-progress).
  • General interest in and familiarity with business sustainability topics as well as the challenges and opportunities that businesses face.
  • General familiarity with social media sites (Twitter and LinkedIn).
  • Computer savvy with advanced Microsoft Office skills.
  • Comfortable on the phone and making outreach calls.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Excellent multi-tasking, interpersonal and organizational skills.
