January 22 2009: National ‘Buy Something Used’ day
Support your local secondhand shops who supply clothing, furniture, sporting equipment, books, toys and much more. And if there’s nothing you need to buy, why not go through your closet or your garage and see what you can donate? Secondhand shops are always looking for gently worn pieces that are in good shape to resell. When you support these shops, you aren’t just saving money and finding unique treasures you are minimizing what goes to the landfill, which is good for the planet.
Lynne Taylor is one of the inspiring group leaders working with The Good Life Community Outreach pilot project and she’s initiated this national Buy Something Used day. She has also organized an annual event called The Reyouzd Festival, which showcases artists and vendors who creatively re-purpose goods.
