Director, Corporate Partnerships

Position Description

WWF-Canada is seeking an individual who has a passion for winning and wants to make a positive contribution to this planet for future generations. S/he will build on WWF Canada’s long tradition of working collaboratively and meaningfully with corporate partners, and develop a fresh approach to corporate engagement that responds to the fast-evolving world of business sustainability and the rise of purpose-driven brands. As a member of the Development leadership team, they will have direct revenue accountabilities and act as a mentor and coach for junior staff.

This individual will be able to combine exceptional relationship management with marketing savvy and business insights to deliver transformational results for partners and nature. They will be a dynamic and spirited team player with proven experience in building and managing large partnership relationships. They will have experience leading high performance teams to achieve financial targets, where entrepreneurial activities are the norm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Corporate Partnerships team to deliver on aggressive fundraising objectives ($3-5M); accountable for developing a clearly articulated and factually supported multi-year revenue growth strategy and plan
  • Personally manages a portfolio of corporate partners and prospects generating over $1.5M annually
  • Successfully stewards existing relationships and develops new ones based on the following: philanthropy, sponsorship, cause marketing or licensing agreements
  • Refreshes policies and framework for corporate partnerships; and ensures the team operates within this framework
  • Conducts rigorous due diligence on corporate partnerships in protection of the WWF brand; understands and navigates brand and reputational risks for both WWF, our corporate partners and stakeholders
  • Work collaboratively with Conservation, Communications and Marketing teams internally to integrate corporate partner initiatives and ensure alignment with broader organizational goals
  • Leads efforts to position WWF as a credible voice on business and the environment
  • Manage a small team of energized and motivated individuals, setting direction and priorities, providing coaching and career support, and setting annual performance targets and KPI’s
  • Lead by example, including demonstrating strategic thinking, strong contact management and ethical behaviour
  • Promote harmonious, respectful and productive working relationships with staff, suppliers and volunteers
  • Lead the team in work planning, revenue forecasting and budget management; ensures sound revenue and cost management
  • Provide oversight on all contracts and gift agreements
  • Prepare annual reporting on corporate engagement for WWF network

What We Are Looking For

  • Successful track record meeting or exceeding multi-million-dollar revenue targets
  • Advanced degree or designation plus at least 4 years professional and 2 years management experience, or university degree plus at least 6 years professional and 2 years management experience
  • Extensive experience with relationship development and management in sales or fundraising roles required and a strong personal business network
  • Proven track record of success in strategic thinking, entrepreneurial efforts, collaboration, and delivering on results
  • Strong listening and negotiation skills
  • Direct experience of sponsorship and cause marketing campaign strategy and execution, as well as employee and corporate giving programs. Brand management best practices and licensing contract experience also beneficial
  • Deep knowledge of business sustainability, CSR and philanthropy trends and issues as well as corporate reporting requirements and industry standards
  • Previous experience in fundraising at an environmental not-for-profit is preferred but not essential. An understanding of conservation issues and practice in Canada is helpful.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills, including delivering presentations, pitches, stewardship and impact reports to business audiences
  • Ability to balance competing priorities, complex situations and tight deadlines
  • Strong people manager with demonstrated ability to coach other fundraisers and create conditions for their success. Minimum of 5 years of people management experience required.
  • French language skills an asset
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Raiser’s Edge software

Other Information

This is a full-time, permanent position based in Toronto.  Some travel, evening and weekend work will be required.
