Database Administration Volunteer – Toronto office

Position Description

This role is one that assists WWF with maintaining a database of supporters that is as accurate as possible and free of duplicate records. Duplicate records give rise to inflated counts of supporters, more clutter in the database than necessary and reflects poorly on the organization when it sends multiple pieces of the same communications to the same person.

Start Date:
June 2017

Commitment:
1 day/week; 4 hours per shift

Available Shifts:
Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays.  (We are flexible based on the volunteer’s availability).

Duration:
A minimum committment of 9 months is required; 9-12 months preferred.

Responsibilities:

WWF generates lists of potential duplicate records to be merged which volunteers use to identify actual duplicates. The volunteer must determine which of the duplicate records to keep and which to merge based on criteria that is provided.

This role is not one of data entry as such because there is no requirement for a certain rate of completion of merges. Rather, attention to detail and sound decisions based on specified criteria are more important. The candidate should have an appreciation for the need for clean data and a desire to help WWF-Canada achieve that goal. They need to be very comfortable working with a computer and have good attention to detail. This role is one that is somewhat solitary and so they must be able to work on their own with little direct interaction with others.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Highly organized.
  • Trustworthy and discreet; can be trusted with confidential information.
  • Highly detail-orientated, motivated, and can work on own initiative with minimal supervision.
  • Understands and carries out instructions accurately.
  • Good knowledge of and comfort with Windows based computer systems and MS Office (Excel, Word Access).
  • Excellent communications skills (oral and written).
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks.
  • Friendly, positive, and enthusiastic about making a difference and passionate about the environment.
  • Previous experience with Raiser’s Edge a strong asset.

Training:         
Comprehensive training will be provided in the first month of volunteering. Ongoing training will be provided as new responsibilities arise.
