Canada must get in the game

Keith made an excellent point in his blog post earlier today that Canada risks being left behind in the green energy revolution. I noticed an article in the Toronto Star today about how Ontario is advertising to attract investment in green technologies in the province.

This is a great example of how Canada can benefit economically from fighting climate change – provided, that is, we set ourselves up as leaders in the emerging green economy. In the article Nicholas Parker, co-founder and executive chairman of Cleantech Group, the industry’s lead investment research firm, calls it “the biggest economic opportunity of our generation.”

This is further proof of what most Canadians now believe: we can’t debate about the environment vs. the economy as some kind of zero-sum game. It’s impossible to have a healthy economy without a healthy environment – and solving our environmental issues is a growth industry. Canada must get in the game.
