Associate Specialist, Research and Support, Oceans
Position Description
Reporting to the Manager, Oceans, the Associate Specialist, Research and Support, Oceans is a highly organized individual who performs a combination of entry-level conservation responsibilities combined with expert-level administrative support for WWF-Canada’s Oceans Program.
Key Responsibilities
Oceans Conservation
- Gather information and provide research related to fisheries, marine protected areas, marine renewables and species, as assigned.
- Contribute to community engagement initiatives, as needed.
- Assist Manager and, VP, Oceans, and members of the Oceans team with document preparation and editing, including creation of PowerPoint presentations on a variety of topics.
Administrative Coordination
- Provide routine financial administrative tasks in support of the Oceans Program, including but not limited to: expenditure tracking, expense reconciliations, petty cash management and invoice processing
- Maintain expense tracking processes and conduct monthly statement reconciliation
- Maintain third party contract schedule and expense tracking processes
- Assist Manager in the preparation and delivery of routine and ad hoc internal and external financial and program plan reports
- Assist with the effective scheduling and execution of meetings and events and staff travel, as required
- General office administration including maintaining professional appearance of common spaces, reception, document storage, ordering office supplies, IT liaising, and providing high level office orientation to new staff and volunteers
What We Are Looking For:
- A university degree in a relevant discipline and experience in financial and office administration.
- Excellent writing, editing and communication skills.
- Ability to research various topics effectively and within at times constrained timelines.
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite with particular emphasis on Excel and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of marine ecosystems and species would be considered an asset.
- Flexibility to adjust to dynamic work environment.
- Excellent judgment and independent decision-making skills.
- Ability to set priorities, complete work with minimal supervision and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work on a multitude of projects at the same time without compromising quality or efficiency.
- Ability and desire to work as a team player.
- Contribute to an organizational culture that attracts, keeps and motivates top quality staff.
Other Information
This is a 1-year contract based in our Halifax office.
