My first year at WWF
I also realized just how much I’ve learned, often about things I never thought I’d know, like:
- Where to find a yeti suit that will fit a 6’8” football player
- The global potential of renewable, sustainable energy to change our world and our planet
- The differences between the various certification systems for sustainable seafood
- How thrilling it is to know that millions of Canadians are participating in WWF’s Earth Hour
- That the average Canadian’s lifestyle requires the resources of four Earths each year
- How many cigarette butts people leave on our shorelines
- What a lot of work it is to put on a fashion show, as we did for National Sweater Day
- What “environmental flow” means
- How much a polar bear tracking collar weighs (yes, I tried one on out of curiosity)
- What it feels like to kiss a beluga (courtesy of our friends at Vancouver Aquarium)
My first year at WWF has been incredibly rewarding. It’s great to know that, as a non-scientist, I can still contribute to WWF’s mission. And it’s even better to work with the outstanding team we have across Canada and around the world. I can’t wait to see what my second year brings!
