Elizabeth Hendriks leads initiatives focused on the restoration of ecosystems and the regeneration of natural habitats. With almost 20 years of experience in conservation and environmental management, Elizabeth has been instrumental in shaping policies that promote freshwater sustainability and biodiversity. Under her leadership, WWF-Canada launched the first national assessment of health and threats to Canada’s freshwater and ensured the protection of ten of Canada’s longest wild rivers in the Navigable Waters Act. The organization also launched Mission Restoration to monitor and increase major restoration efforts, as well as the Nature and Climate Grant Program, which helps local groups and Indigenous communities restore degraded lands and shorelines to improve habitats and capture carbon.
Elizabeth holds an undergraduate degree in international development from Dalhousie University and a graduate degree in environment and resource studies from the University of Waterloo. Elizabeth also teaches at the Rotman School of Business in the Newcomer Women’s Services Toronto Not-for-Profit Management Program. She sits on several not-for-profit national boards.
