Go Wild Grants: Two-Year Seed Sharing Pilot Application Form

The application period has now closed.

WWF-Canada is introducing a new seed sharing pilot where one native plant garden at school can seed many more habitat gardens in the community.

This special two-year pilot is an opportunity for schools to grow, harvest and share native plant seeds in their communities. As a pilot school you will receive a grant of $1,500 to support the implementation of this project, along with the guidance of WWF-Canada through online workshops and resources.

Results from the pilot will shape a new WWF activity that will be offered through the Living Planet @ School program.

TWO YEAR PROJECT PLAN

This pilot will run from January 2026 until June 2027. Below is an outline of the activities that schools will implement with guidance from WWF-Canada:

WINTER-EARLY SPRING 2026
• Create school site plan for the garden.
• Collect supplies, purchase seeds and prepare them to germinate and grow.
• Select and order local seed-bearing native plants.
SPRING 2026
• Install raised garden beds and plant native plants
• Care for plant and seedlings.
• Conduct biodiversity observations.
Share an interim report with WWF-Canada (end of June).
SUMMER 2026
• Maintain the native plant seed garden.
FALL 2026
• Harvest, clean, package and share the seeds with other schools. • Winterize your garden.
WINTER 2026–27
• Develop plan for future garden maintenance and sharing.
• Support other schools and community groups in their seed garden journey.
• Prepare your garden for spring.
• Prepare seeds saved from harvest to germinate.
SPRING 2027
• Submit the final report.

SPENDING AND BUDGET AGREEMENT

Each selected school will receive a grant of $1,500 CAD to implement this pilot. The following budget is suggested for building and maintaining a 12 square meter raised habitat garden:

- Native Plants and seeds = $400- $500
- Site preparation (potting soil, containers or building materials for raised beds, signs, labels, etc.) = $600-$700
- Equipment and maintenance costs needed to complete the project = $50-$100
- Materials and supplies for seed sharing = estimated $100-$200
