Help protect threatened species and their habitats.
Fewer than 250 elephants remain in Nepal today. This number may be alarming, but it’s not surprising. Over the past few decades, they’ve lost 80 per cent of their natural habitat to human development.
Now, elephants have far less space to roam, migrate and find food. They’re also more vulnerable to conflict with humans as they’re forced closer to communities, where they forage on croplands.
We need your support to restore lost habitats and reduce human-elephant conflict in Nepal’s Terai Arc Landscape, a region that’s home to many endangered species, including Asian elephants.
Elephants are essential to sustaining the health and future of the ecosystems they call home. We must address the two most urgent threats facing elephants right now: habitat loss and human-elephant conflict.
Here’s how your gift will help us reduce these threats:
Habitat loss:
Your support will help restore degraded habitats and reconnect elephants’ movement corridors in the region. We’re also using the latest technology to remotely monitor elephants as they travel and track conservation success.
Human-elephant conflict:
Your gifts will increase capacity in local communities to manage protected areas and better understand elephant behaviour. We’re also setting up victim-relief funds and putting up safe physical and biological barriers that deter elephants from croplands.
* Generous donors have committed to matching all gifts made to this campaign, dollar for dollar, up to a maximum of $25,000 until May 31, 2024, in support of our conservation efforts in Nepal. Any additional funds raised will support other important conservation work in Canada.
