WWF-Canada statement on the outcomes of the ninth Ministerial Meeting of the Arctic Council
Iqaluit, April 27, 2015 – Following the closing of the ninth Ministerial Meeting of Arctic Council in Iqaluit, NU, Paul Crowley, VP Arctic for WWF-Canada would like to issue the following statement regarding the priorities for the 2015-2017 American chairmanship:
“U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry’s speech during the Arctic Council Ministerial in Iqaluit was a groundbreaking moment. He not only acknowledged that climate change impacts need to be dealt with now, but that actions must urgently be taken to limit its advance. Such straightforward talk is refreshing. WWF-Canada is heartened that the U.S. has put forward, with the consensus of the Council, an ambitious work program for the next two years. Whether on land or in the oceans, changes in the Arctic are happening so rapidly that such a bold program is required if we are to simply keep pace.”
