Water Health Assessment Research Volunteer

WWF-Canada is seeking a volunteer with conservation research experience who is interested in working with our Freshwater Team to protect and restore Canada’s rivers. We are working to meet the water needs of people and nature, securing Canada’s freshwater future. This volunteer role will help situate WWF’s work on assessing freshwater health in the broader context of other initiatives in the country and provide insights into potential collaborations and guide outreach efforts.This work provides a knowledge base that will be of strategic importance as WWF aims to facilitate reporting on the health of freshwater ecosystems across the country. The volunteer should be willing to collaborate congenially with WWF staff undertake activities as assigned.

Where: 245 Eglinton Ave. E, Toronto, Ontario, M4P3J11
When: December 2012 to February 2013
Shifts: Eight hours per week, flexible within 9am to 5pm on Monday to Friday.

Responsibilities:
• Undertake a scan and inventory of existing freshwater ecosystem health frameworks in Canada
• Work with and take direction from WWF-Canada’s Freshwater Conservation Analyst

Experience and Skills:
• Solid understanding of freshwater ecosystems and governance in Canada
• Excellent research and analytical abilities
• Academic training and/or experience in environmental science or related field
• Ability to work independently with objectives and criteria provided by the Freshwater team
• Solid computer skills with experience using online search tools and spreadsheet programs
