Volunteer Species Information Verification Officer
Where: Remote / from home. Volunteers will do a majority of their work from home; staying in communication with their WWF staff supervisor via email and phone.
Start Date: Initial need is ASAP (Summer 2013), and we would like to have a pool of volunteers with specific knowledge or research skills that we can engage as needed.
Commitment: Ability to turn around review of materials within 48-72 hours.
Purpose: Review for accuracy communication/marketing/fundraising materials that include information about species and provide recommendations where changes are required. Will focus specifically on species that are NOT related to our Canadian conservation priorities or where internal expertise is not available. For example, the initial projects will include reviewing materials from our symbolic wildlife adoption program, and a blog series about camera traps.
Duration: Ongoing for broader cross-departmental requirements.
Impact: Brand stewardship and education: Ensure materials produced by WWF-Canada support our brand by being factually and scientifically accurate.
Capacity: Provide capacity where we do not have it – we can’t be experts on all species around the world.
Responsibilities:
- Review for accuracy communications/marketing/fundraising materials that include information about species and provide recommendations where changes or corrections are required. Document source material for our own records.
- Reference and cross-check WWF material globally as required.
- Immediate need: Symbolic wildlife adoption program material review: Seeking individuals with knowledge about new species being added to the program:
• Red panda

- Additionally, require individuals who can research species information from within the WWF network and other credible sources to vet the existing wildlife adoption materials:

• Arctic Fox
• Emperor Penguin

Note: The type of information required for new and existing materials is categorized as follows:
- Scientific Name
- General Introduction/ information on the species
- Habitat
- Diet
- Fun Fact
- Why are they at risk facts?
- WWF’s Solution to help protect this particular species (or more broad to include other species within that geographic area or region)
- Did you know fact?
Experience and Skills:
- Minimum bachelors of science in biology, conservation or environment or related experience with a particular species.
- Strong research and documentation skills.
- Strong command of the English language.
Learning and Development Opportunities:

Additional Requirements: A reliable computer or laptop with internet connection. Access to a telephone (cellular or land line) is also required for communication with the WWF office during regular business hours.
