Position Description

In the face of a changing climate and unsustainable development pressures, WWF-Canada is committed to supporting healthy Arctic ecosystems and the communities and species that depend on them.  WWF-Canada is supportive of the Government of Canada’s goal “to increase the proportion of Canada’s marine and coastal areas that are protected – to five percent by 2017, and ten percent by 2020 – supported by new investments in community consultation and science.” Further, WWF-Canada’s Arctic Program aims to secure whole oceans management in the Canadian Arctic while demonstrating that it is possible to have healthy robust ecosystems that go hand-in-hand with sustainable communities and economic well-being.

Reporting to the Vice President, Arctic Program, this role will help expand WWF-Canada’s work on Oceans conservation and planning in the Arctic, ensuring that our work is scientifically sound, incorporates traditional knowledge and is supportive of the aspirations of affected communities.

  • Represent WWF-Canada at meetings, conferences, workshops, and similar activities when requested by the Vice President, Arctic.
  • Maintain links with scientific, conservation and governmental bodies on issues related to Arctic marine conservation and planning to ensure synergies and partnerships where appropriate.
  • Engage with communities and agencies that provide local and traditional knowledge relevant to marine conservation and planning.
  • Remain abreast of developments relating to scientific and traditional knowledge related to Arctic conservation and planning, and share this information with colleagues.
