New $28K micro grant program makes waves for healthy oceans

Ottawa, Ontario (February 25, 2015) – HUB Ottawa and World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Canada are partnering to create Ottawa Wave Makers, a first-of-its-kind micro grant offered to projects that raise awareness in the nation’s capital about Canada’s oceans.

“Healthy oceans are vital to our communities and our economy, and benefit Canadians from coast-to-coast-to-coast, says Vinod Rajasekaran, Lead Strategist and Co-Founder at HUB Ottawa. “We’re excited to partner with WWF-Canada to help raise awareness around this key issue through projects that engage social innovators and the creative community here in Ottawa.”

Eligible projects include, but are not limited to: campaigns, events, art installations, conferences, pop-up events, mobile applications, and workshops. Successful applicants must demonstrate the potential to raise awareness about the importance of healthy oceans to a variety of different audiences in Ottawa, and be nonpartisan. Solution-oriented projects with the potential to reach the largest number of people and create ongoing impact will be favoured.

Applications for the $28,000 micro grant will be accepted from February 26, 2015. There is no limit on the number of projects that will be funded.

“Canadians have a major stake in the world’s ocean resources, and keeping them healthy requires both innovative ideas and collaborative action,” said David Miller, President and CEO of WWF-Canada. “WWF is proud of the role it plays developing new solutions with partners like HUB Ottawa that advocate for a change in the way we see and interact with our oceans.”
