Manager, Development Communications

Position Description
 
WWF-Canada is looking for a dedicated communications specialist to assist our Development teams in growing our revenue to support ambitious conservation goals at Canada’s largest international conservation organization.  With the assistance of the Stewardship Coordinator, you will work in concert with our Development teams, our Conservation teams, and in close collaboration with our Communications team to develop and craft fundraising communications, including proposals, stewardship reports and presentation materials. The successful candidate will have exceptionally strong writing and research skills, thrives in a fast-paced and results-oriented environment, is a team player with a strong work ethic, and has the drive to help save the planet.

This position will play a key role in major fundraising campaigns (including WWF-Canada’s 50th anniversary) and support ambitious conservation goals for Canada’s Oceans, Arctic and Freshwater and will help drive fundraising for Canada’s largest international conservation.
 
Key Responsibilities

Creation of Proposals, Presentations and Project Briefs

  • Work closely with our Conservation teams to author, design and edit compelling and articulate proposals, presentations and project briefs on behalf of the Development teams for prospects, partners and donors.
  • Collaborate with donor/partner managers, Conservation teams, our Communications team and organizational leaders to develop proposal strategies.
  • Manage the critical path for proposal deadlines, including the vetting and review process to ensure the accuracy, clarity and alignment of all information presented.

Case for Support Development

  • In collaboration with the Senior Manager, Strategic Communications, and with support from third party suppliers as necessary, lead the development of all case materials including the organization/campaign case for support, “one-pagers” and presentations for priority programs and projects.
  • Provide strategic thinking and communications expertise for major fundraising campaigns and initiatives at national and regional scales

Stewardship Report Preparation

  • Work with support from the Stewardship Coordinator and input from the Conservation teams to ensure the creation of accurate, articulate and inspiring partner and donor stewardship reports. This includes shepherding the creation and maintenance of stewardship report templates for key programs and designing/developing/overseeing customized reports for high-level donors and partners.
  • Work closely with the Stewardship Coordinator to manage annual stewardship report cycles and critical paths for deadlines. 

Research and Relationships

  • Complete research for the various written materials produced, which includes interviewing key conservation and program staff as well as, from time to time, our donors and partners.
  • Work in close collaboration with the Communications team to ensure that all materials align with and build on the organization’s overall communications strategy.
  • Build constructive and purposeful relationships with WWF staff, including senior staff, to ensure that needed information is provided on time.
  • Act as an ambassador for the Development teams by helping to deepen understanding of philanthropy and donor stewardship among our WWF colleagues.

Management

  • Train, coach and provide day-to-day management of the Stewardship Coordinator reporting to this position.

 
What We Are Looking For:

  • University or college degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Affairs or other related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of professional writing experience (fundraising, government grant proposal composition, journalism, public relations etc.)
  • Flare for and hands-on ability in document/presentation design.
  • Strong communications, writing, research and design skills (print and digital).
  • Ability to think strategically.
  • Ability to produce and edit documents and presentations.
  • Knowledge of, and demonstrated interest in, conservation issues.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with funders.
  • Ability to synthesize large amounts of information into attractive, concise and compelling proposals/reports/presentations.
  • A passion for detail and deadlines.
  • Proficient in a broad range of software applications including, MS Word, Adobe Creative Suite, PowerPoint, Excel, Raiser’s Edge and Outlook.
  • Proven ability to set priorities, complete work with minimal supervision and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work on a multitude of projects at the same time without compromising quality or efficiency.
  • A strong team player.
