Europe Envy II
At the recent inter-sessional UN climate change meeting in Warsaw, Poland, Mr Solheim made a public statement, some key points of which are worth repeating:
“it will be irresponsible to let the financial crisis overshadow the climate crisis”
“the climate crisis is the deepest, most long-term and most difficult to solve of the two”
“economic rescue packages must be used to turn the economy in a more environmentally friendly direction”
“those who succeed in putting in place more environment oriented structures and increased
investments in renewable energy will in the long run be the most competitive economies”
“the financial crisis has demonstrated to the USA how dependent they are upon the rest of the world”
Many powerful Canadians should be taking notes.
