Design Students at University of Guelph are Bright Green
At the annual BBQ Tuesday, the director of the school, Maurice Nelischer handed out reusable bags to each student (see pic below). Chatting with Director Nelischer, he was emphatic about avoiding plastic bags. “Reusable bags are everywhere now - in fact I feel embarrassed when I have to use those terrible plastic bags. I want to students to think about how and where they shop. The loudest message is ‘don’t buy stuff’ if possible -nothing is better for the environment than reduction. And so the bags I gave away are a vehicle to bring these issues to mind -small steps that will add up”.
The great thing is that shopping with reusable bags is one of the actions on The Good Life, and demonstrates further why signing up to make your existing actions count is so important! And to make this fun and informative for the whole school, I will be working with an awesome group of eager students to create a ‘green’ program to implement The Good Life into existing activities. I’ll keep you updated as to what fun stuff we come up with. If you’d like to check out SEDRD’s website, go to http://sedrd.uoguelph.ca/
