Communications Specialist, Visuals
Position Description
The Communications Specialist, Visuals is a high energy, organized and creative professional responsible for the conception, creation and deployment of all videos, animated GIFs, other animations and images used in WWF-Canada communications.
The visuals will appear in WWF-Canada e-mails, on our social-media channels, on our website, in our printed material and anywhere else our message appears. The primary aim is to help WWF-Canada achieve its conservation goals. The secondary aim is to maintain and grow support for WWF-Canada’s work.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate closely with other members of the communication and media team, relevant WWF-Canada department(s) to and external partners to:
- Conceive, produce and manage videos, animated GIFs, other animations, still photographs, illustrations and all other imagery used in WWF-Canada communications (digital, print and live). This includes:
o Shooting video and photographs
o Recording sound
o Editing videos and sound
o Editing photographs
o Creating animated GIFs
o Creating other animations
- Hire and manage freelance visual professionals (photographers, videographers, editors, producers, animators, etc.) as needed.
- Manage WWF-Canada’s database of photographs, images, and videos
Requirements
- Demonstrated ability to clearly and compellingly convey complex ideas through visual media to engage a general audience.
- At least five years of experience conceiving, creating and managing compelling factual videos, animated GIFs, other video animations and still photography that engage audiences and tell a story.
- Demonstrated mastery of videos, animated GIFs, video animations and still photography on the following platforms:
o E-mail
o Facebook
o Instagram
o Twitter
o YouTube
o Websites
o Printed material
o Broadcast
o Public presentations
- Extensive experience sourcing video, sound and still photography from third party sources (wires, agencies, individuals, Creative Commons, etc.).
- Extensive experience hiring and managing freelance visual professionals (photographers, videographers, editors, producers, animators, etc.) and working with them within budget.
- Demonstrated ability to work well as an independently responsible creator in a highly collaborative environment.
- Strong mediation and negotiation skills with the ability to resolve difficult situations while demonstrating tact and diplomacy.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a timely manner.
- Mastery of Final Cut Pro, Adobe Creative Suite tools, or other equivalent tools.
- Understand codecs, video/sound compression and conversions.
- Strong understanding of other current production tools and techniques for print and digital-mobile (e-mail, social, web), broadcast and public presentation audiences.
- Extensive experience with storage and retrieval databases for video and still photography.
- Strong understanding of copyright and usage-rights issues for visuals.
- English/French bilingual is an asset
