A day in Winnipeg
Most of the day was spent getting to know each other, which is important because as camp organizers put it, we will be spending 5 days in a box out on the tundra together in VERY close quarters!
The students have come from across North America to attend camp and a variety of different US states are represented, along with two Canadian students – one from Winnipeg and the other from Toronto. At dinner, we met some PBI Leadership camp alumni, which gave this year’s students a great opportunity to talk to them and find out about their experiences, both during and since camp. I found it very inspiring to hear about the great work the alumni have been doing to educate their peers about climate change, what they learned from their time in Churchill, and how everyone can do their part to help . And after dinner, we were so lucky to have Robert Taylor, a very well known photographer, come and share a slideshow of beautiful pictures he has taken over the years in Churchill. It was a great way to get everyone ready for tomorrow’s trip.
And with that, everyone is off to bed so that we make our 5:00 am extra early start! Tomorrow we will be in Churchill – polar bear capital of the world.
