Specialist, Community Action
Overview
The Specialist, Community Action co-manages the operations, outreach, monitoring and evaluation, and stewardship for the national and bilingual Living Planet @ Campus and Living Planet @ School programs. This role cultivates and stewards strategic partnerships across the country, develops and implements national in-person and online activation strategies, and cultivates events and recognition opportunities related to each program. The Specialist represents these programs for WWF-Canada at external fora, through online networks and on site at events. They will collaborate directly with the Marketing & Communications department to develop solid and effective outreach and engagement plans, and contribute to the development of fundraising proposals. The individual will work across departments to cultivate opportunities to drive organizational goals with the programs’ audiences, including the re:grow initiative by engaging this audience to take action for habitat restoration.
Responsibilities
- Co-manage the Living Planet @ Campus (LP@C) and Living Planet @ School (LP@S) programs.
- Create and update program content, and support other Community Action programs with knowledge from the education and youth engagement sectors.
- Update relevant websites with program changes and news and manage relationships within WWF and external providers for maintaining and updating other various web platforms.
- Build and maintain relationships with educational and youth stakeholders to increase the scope and impact of project activities.
- Implement program expansion strategies with target partners and support ongoing development efforts.
- Steward engagement to deepen impact within each program and connect students and educators to other WWF opportunities including re:grow and signature fundraising initiatives.
- Ensure effective mechanisms are in place to measure conservation impact, and capture engagement numbers.
- Contribute to work planning, budgeting, annual goal setting and reporting for relevant Community Action programs.
- Contribute to storytelling, communication, marketing and outreach in partnership with WWF’s Marketing and Communications department.
- Contribute to fundraising efforts in partnership with the Development department to assist in the effective resourcing of the LP@C and LP@S programs.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of professional experience in program/project implementation or management.
- 2+ years of experience in developing outreach and engagement strategies mobilizing youth, students/educators, and/or schools/campuses.
- Post-secondary education in environmental studies or relevant program, or equivalent related work experience.
- Demonstrated experience in cultivating and managing external partnerships.
- Experience in program monitoring and evaluation.
- Strong problem-solving, creative, interpersonal, and strategic thinking capabilities coupled with an outcome, delivery-oriented approach.
- Proven ability to lead groups and comfortable making presentations to different audiences.
- Ability to meet deadlines and ensure quality control.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for content creation.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with others on major program outcomes.
- Familiarity with the provincial education, post-secondary systems, or environmental education sector in Canada is a requirement.
- Bilingualism (French/English) is an asset.
- Comfortable using suite of Microsoft Office programs.
- Experience using WordPress an asset.
- Knowledgeable about Canadian conservation issues and concerns.
- Familiarity with First Nations Principles of OCAP, BC First Nations Data Governance Initiative, or other similar data sovereignty guidelines an asset.

Other Information
- This role will require occasional local or national travel.
- Ability to work to work occasional evenings or weekends to attend or lead events.
- This is a hybrid work from home/work from office role that can be based out of any WWF-Canada office – Thunder Bay, Toronto, Montréal, Ottawa, Victoria, or Iqaluit.
- There are 2 available positions as a Specialist, Community Action – one 1 year full-time contract role, and one full-time permanent position.
