Overview

The Senior Manager, Direct Marketing will develop, lead and execute comprehensive fundraising strategies to acquire, steward and retain donors for WWF-Canada through integrated direct response campaigns that achieve fundraising objectives. Through a variety of direct marketing campaigns and tactics, this role is responsible for tens of thousands of annual and monthly mass-market donors.

The Senior Manager, Direct Marketing will lead the strategy and execution of WWF-Canada’s donation-focused fundraising campaigns. With a focus on a multi-channel approach, the individual will be responsible for managing external vendors and working closely with Marcom colleagues to deliver against the department’s goals. The Senior Manager will motivate donors to support various initiatives, crucially converting supporters into donors to grow the donor base and revenue.

Responsibilities

  • Create fundraising strategies that support the growth of revenue and donors through various fundraising campaigns.
  • Execute integrated direct response programs that drive one-time and monthly donor revenues for the organization. Integrated channels include but are not limited to: direct mail, digital fundraising (email/social/digital ads), tele fundraising, and Face-to-Face.
  • Manage external partners throughout the campaign lifecycle, from project briefing, concept development, internal approval process to in-market execution, ensuring messaging is on brand, timely, relevant and aligned with organizational goals.
  • Work in close collaboration with WWF’s marketing team to create innovative digital programs that maximize revenue and build engagement among donors.
  • Lead all acquisition projects, including business case development, strategic development, project planning, operational design, testing, implementation and reporting
  • Develop, monitor, and report on donor retention and stewardship initiatives.
  • Collaborate across the organization to foster integration between all departments.
  • Create and manage detailed project timelines and ensure on-time execution of campaigns.
  • Lead development and execution of data strategies to maximize fundraising ROI.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop direct reports, identifying opportunities, facilitating execution, and seeking solutions to challenges.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial commentaries, forecast of portfolio performance, results and campaign analysis against budget.
  • Lead and/or participate in team and cross-functional projects as assigned.
  • Assist the Marketing & Communications (Marcom) team, as required, with other related duties contributing to the mandate and successful operation of the department and organization.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of experience in fundraising and direct marketing.
  • Post-secondary education in Fundraising, Marketing, or similar, or an additional 2+ years of related experience.
  • Extensive experience in direct marketing principles and best practices, preferably in a non-profit environment.
  • Understanding of email marketing, digital advertising and social media tactics to support and grow direct response campaigns.
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to craft stories and inspire donors.
  • Exceptional project management skills.
  • Experience developing, mentoring, and leading a team.
  • Ability to set priorities, demonstrate a positive attitude, troubleshoot and problem solve independently using sound judgement.
  • Strong understanding of how to create effective direct response fundraising creative briefs, managing external partners in developing plans and assessing performance.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of CRA and CASL guidelines and fundraising best practices
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills; proven experience in managing and mentoring staff
  • Advance level of proficiency in MS Office
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.
