Overview

The WWF International Governance Practice is seeking an International Coordinator for WWF’s People Protecting Landscapes & Seascapes (PPLS) initiative. PPLS aims to promote and assist with activities that recognize and support the vital role Indigenous communities around the globe play in protecting and safeguarding land and seascapes essential to local, regional, national and global conservation goals. The International Coordinator will develop a range of governance, operational and strategic elements of the hub during its two-year start-up period.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the lead of WWF’s International Governance Practice as well as WWF-Canada’s VP, Conservation Management and Integration, the Coordinator will work in collaboration with the Governance Practice leadership and core team to support the delivery of strategic, early components of the PPLS start-up phase.

Main responsibilities will include the following:

  • Lead design and implementation of the PPLS initiative governance framework, key structures and an issues management approach, including:
    • A formalized Steering Group
    • Advisory Panel
    • Regional Hubs
    • and “Friends of the PPLS”.
  • Develop planning, monitoring, evaluation and learning framework for the PPLS Initiative.
  • Building on a 2021 global PPLS launch workshop, support early take-off and implementation of the PPLS approach in starter countries (approximately 15 countries) including supporting local WWF office development of work plans, budgets and funding proposals related to PPLS implementation.
  • Develop a resource mobilization strategy and ensure effective management of funding.
  • Lead the creation of ‘Regional Hubs’.
  • Support communications and serve as focal point for PPLS related inquiries.
  • Contribute to the design and content of the Inclusive Conservation Academy (a multi-partner, multi-knowledge learning and service support platform targeting WWF staff and partners), including a PPLS-tailored training of trainers on Political Economy Assessment for Conservation Impact (PEACI).

Qualifications

  • At least 10 years of cumulative relevant experience in the following areas:
    • Proven experience of effective collaboration with Indigenous leaders, organizations and communities.
    • International program development and management experience, including development of international program governance frameworks, team building, development of monitoring and evaluation frameworks, budgeting, and fundraising.
    • Understanding of best practices for progressing on national and international Indigenous-led conservation goals through regional and multi-stakeholder engagement.
    • Experience in project coordination
  • Strong problem-solving, creative interpersonal and strategic thinking capabilities coupled with an outcome, delivery-oriented approach.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong virtual meetings skills and knowledge of Zoom meeting platform and functionalities.
  • Strong program management and execution skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain results- oriented relationships and partnerships internally and externally.
  • Be passionately committed to the mission and objectives of WWF and the Global Governance Practice.
  • Knowledge of a second language related to regional work an asset (e.g., French, Spanish)
  • Knowledge of an Indigenous language is an asset.

Other Information

  • Contract position ending December 23, 2023.
  • The position will require occasional global travel and frequent virtual meetings.
  • Ability to adjust working hours to accommodate virtual meetings in various international time zones.
  • This role can be based out of any office in Canada.
