WWF-Canada’s Nature Meets Carbon project connects people with the tools to measure, map and monitor carbon in ecosystems. We’re working closely with partners, community members and Indigenous-led conservation groups to make it happen.
Our free resource library below includes training videos, PDF guides and more to support your own ecosystem carbon measurement project. Use the buttons to dig in to your topic of interest, or get in touch with us for more information.

Explore the resources below for general information on ecosystem carbon, including the WWF-Canada carbon map resource, as well as a webinar about the basics of estimating carbon in an area using digital tools.

Before diving into sediment sampling or field surveys, you may need support to design a carbon measurement project that reflects your goals, budget and timeline. WWF-Canada has developed a sampling design guide to assist in project development from start to finish. For a quick overview of the guide, refer to the accompanying video.

These guides and video overviews walk you through how to complete carbon measurement across four carbon pools.

Preparing and processing your data can be one of the most challenging parts of the carbon measurement process. The tools below will help with some of the calculations needed for these steps.
Sample allocation calculator
Helps determine the number of plots needed for your study area
Sample allocation calculator with strata
Helps determine the number of plots needed for your study area when strata are used
Random sampling tool
Google Earth Engine tool to determine location of plots when using a random sampling strategy
Systemic sampling tool
Google Earth Engine tool to determine location of plots when using a systematic sampling strategy
Carbon calculator for forest data
Input your field data to automatically calculate biomass and carbon
Carbon calculator for medium vegetation
Input your field data to automatically calculate biomass and carbon

Interested in connecting with others working in the field of ecosystem carbon?
WWF-Canada hosts regular meetings that bring together practitioners, researchers, NGOs and others with expertise related to carbon to share information on their work, listen to presentations and invite opportunities for collaboration.
