Four ways you can make Halloween less scary for wildlife

Ready to be shocked and terrified by spooky species?
You might be surprised to learn that the scariest thing about tigers, bats and ghostly cats is their dwindling populations. Known as the “ghost of the mountains,” snow leopards risk vanishing from the wild. We’ve lost 96 per cent of our wild tiger population and seven species of bats in Canada are at risk.
But Halloween doesn’t have be gloomy for wildlife. To mark the spookiest holiday of the year, we have put together this list of ways you can have fun while supporting species at risk.

1. Wear it wild

Throw the wildest party of the year. Dress up with your family and friends in your fiercest animal costumes and roar into action by raising funds to protect wildlife and wild places. Charge a donation door fee, sell raffle tickets or have a costume contest where guests can vote on their favourite costume by making a donation.
Sign up to host your own event today and get all kinds of fundraising tips and advice to make your Halloween party a wild success.

2. Conjure up some Halloween treats

Combine dressing up as your favourite species with a spooky bake and treat sale. Conjure up some tasty, terrifying treats such as spooky paw cookies, tiger-striped brownies or bat cupcakes and show off your baking prowess. All funds raised will support wildlife and critical habitats.

3. Run with monsters

Run wild to help conserve species and habitats from coast to coast to coast. First, sign up to a run a spooky mile, 1K or 5K course as part of Monster Dash happening on October, 30 in Toronto. Then, join Team Monster Dash and create your personal fundraising page to collect donations in support of wildlife. It’s easy, fun and WWF-Canada will help you every step of the way.
Not in the Toronto area? You can turn any existing event into a fundraiser, or host your own monstrously fun run by signing up here.
